On Tuesday, January 3rd, Maricopa Christian Academy will begin offering two-days-a-week of homeschool support classes for students ages eight, nine and ten. The classes will run from 9 am to 3:30 pm on Tuesday and Thursday each week through May 25, 2023.
I started similar homeschool support programs at my last two previous schools. The first grew to over 60 students. In each instance, we started with the elementary ages first. Mostly because this age is the easiest to instruct. Language skills and maturity are developed enough to participate in group activities. If academic skills are behind in reading or writing, remediation is usually doable even in a two-day week.
We will eventually expand the Homeschool Support Program to six, seven and eleven-year-olds.
The school morning will consist of history, writing/grammar, physical education and literature. After lunch, the students will study Bible, science and basic geometry/mechanical drawing.
The program works really well for us as a school. because the Homeschool Support Program uses the same materials and individualized goals as the students in the full-time program, students have the opportunity to change programs year-to-year as a family's needs change.
For now, the homeschooled students will be integrated with the full-time students. As both programs grow, the two will be separated. It just works better that way with that many students.
Homeschooled families in the program will have the same opportunities available to them as far as field trips and sports. our first sport was cross country for ages ten through high school. I am hoping to start high school girls' volleyball and junior high boys' basketball next year
The cost for the semester is $2000 or $400 per month, due the first of each month.
