Educating Our Children: We Are Far Too Easily Pleased

Updated: Jan 16, 2021

If we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.

CS Lewis The Weight of Glory

In my over forty years educating birth through adult students, it continues to cause me profound and confused thoughts words cannot adequately express when I observe how easily pleased people are as a general rule with the care and education of those they love, their children.

I have two sons. One is a doctor and the other is an architect. Their mother and I neither chose or pushed them into those careers. And I think I am able to speak for both of us that if they had chosen another career instead of their present professions, we would have been supportive.

But both sons were able to choose their careers because they had a great education we provided for them homeschooling and educatednin my first school. Both men excelled at math, writing and reading. They learned to serve with compassion. Early on the two of them learned to be comfortable speaking and interacting with adults. Making mistakes and learning fron those mistakes is second nature for them. Hundreds of hours were spent in Bible instruction.

A great education is important in any day and age. If you cannot write or even think you cannot write well, you are very limited in what you are able to choose for a career. And if you some how find yourself in a good career choice, your ability to grow in that position is limited by your lack of writing skills.

What makes an education at Maricopa Christian Academy so great? Prayer for one. Daily prayer by the staff first thing before school trusting our Lord and creator to again provide a day where his love is shown, providing safety for all, changed hearts, and that another day is enjoyed..

There is also the over forty years of experience I bring. I was a kindergarten through high school principal for eighteen years. I have taught special education in the public schools for nineteen years. That experience includes students K-12, self-contained, resource and home bound. Almost every label our society places on students and adults I have time with: blind, deaf, mentally handicapped, behavior disorder, learning disabled, physically handicapped and emotional disorder. I taught a multi-grade regular education class for five years . And there is the experiece of teaching in three different states - Kansas, Colorado and Arizona.

Our curriculum is tried and true. Everything we use has been very successful in meeting our academic goals. My expectation is at least 90% of our students meet state standards or better.

Choosing Maricopa Christian Academy is a great choice for parents who want their children to meet or exceed their expectations in a Christian environment.
