First Dance
Two weeks ago, Maricopa Christian Academy had its first school dance. The school furniture was stacked against the walls, tables were set up with interesting snacks, and 37 seventh- through twelfth-grade students enjoyed a fun night of being teenagers.
Two parents, a teacher, and I chaperoned a very energetic two hours of music ranging from classic rock to newer Christian music. For me, having taught many of these students for up to five years, I especially enjoyed seeing how well they treated one another.
Boys asked girls to dance. For many of the boys and girls, it was their first time dancing. The relationships and interests involving the opposite sex were also interesting to observe. Students danced with people whose existence they barely acknowledged during the school day, while others danced together who had already been friends for over a year.
All in all, it was a fun night for the middle school and senior academy students of Maricopa Christian Academy.
